One of the things I love about travel is it’s ability to change you… like fundamentally change who you are as a person. When you travel and experience different customs and cultures, different lifestyles, different languages… when you have the opportunity to meet so many interesting and inspiring people.. it can really change your perspective and outlook on life.
Whether it’s sitting in the sand of the Sahara desert having a conversation under the stars with a nomad in Morocco…realizing how unstable the ground can be while running out of a Nepalese house during a 7.1 earthquake… being invited for tea and discussing life with a spice merchant in his shop in Turkey… or getting lost down back streets in Vietnam and wandering through alleyways in search of a cup of coffee with a stranger who will soon become one of your best friends. It’s experiences like that (and yes, those all happened to me) that make you re-think your life and the world around you.
You realize how much you can depend on yourself, yet at the same time need the compassion and help of others to survive. You realize how happy people can be with nothing. You come to realize that some of the things that seemed important to you, are really not that important at all. (I once spend months washing all my clothes in my bathtub after returning from a 3 month trip where I spent the whole time washing my clothes in the sink). You also realize the value of family and friends… and you learn how precious life is. Our world is an amazing and exciting place, and despite our many differences, we are all the same.
So where have I been? Well, not even close to everywhere, but I’ve been to a few places since I began my wanderlust lifestyle over 15 years ago.
Here’s a sneak peak of some of the places I’ve uncovered…
